Update on our school garden project

Rev. Wasike sent me this update to post here about our new school garden. Our garden project started as many project here start, by taking small steps with big hearts and strong wills. Since the plot of land that our temporary school stands on is too small, the planting was done in various places in the area; depending on the free portion of land donated for this season by the Kimilili community. We managed to plant cassava plant, maize, cow peace, and kale (sukuma wiki). Continue

A Star is Born

Rev. Wasike sent me this story to post here.

Fadhili is one of our pupils in our school. Jennifer from the States bought him a football, which Rev. Wasike purchased in Nairobi and recently brought up to Kimilili. When the football was handed over to him, he was in the school compou… Continue

News about Relocation of CBSM School

I'm writing this blog post for Rev. Wasike and the children of the CBSM school... Greetings from Kimilili. Over two hundred pupils reported back this January for the start of their new school year. They opened the school year with a ceremony, only to stand before locked doors the morning after. During the last few weeks, Rev. Wasike and many helpful members of the community have been very busy building new temporary facilities. Eventually, they are going to have to build a proper school, but fo… Continue

Gabi's Class Wins 2nd Prize!

Gabi's class participated in a Computer World 2008 contest at the university of Luebeck. The contest was for school projects that explore syllabus material with the help of digital media. Gabi's class project was the Our Song Circle and her one project "Where is Mario". The judges particularly like the fact that all of you are participating in Our Song Circle - Wimbo Mviringo. They feel, and I also believe, that the children in all our schools will benefit from hearing each other songs and learn… Continue

US Election Day;: Animoto and Slidshare Presentations

I have a grade 9 student working at my office for two weeks. She put together two presentations about the US Election 2008 for her social studies class. The first one is an Animoto presentation, The second one is a SlideShare presentation. I feel the SlideShare presentation is the best way to create a storyline in your presentation.

Help for Teachers

Rev. Wasike asked me to write us something for him and the teachers of the CBSM School to orientate themselves on for creating projects for this site. The following is what I wrote him as early advice for the teachers of his school. He responded with his own post today. I thought it might be interesting for some of the teachers of this site t… Continue

The Beginning of Our Song Circle

A few weeks ago, Rev. Wasike and I started to talk to each other about the possibility of creating a website for the Community Breakthrough Support Mission. We knew we didn't only want to just put up information on the site; we also wanted to create a dialog with other schools and organisations. Rev. Wasike is writing a blog on the website, in hope of connecting his children and the guardians of… Continue

Here to Help

I just want to say how happy I am that we've managed to set up this site. May we have many school classrooms participating on this site. Over the last four years, I have worked intensely with teachers and students (K-12) creating school projects that explore a whole range of topics of their syllabus aided with digital technology. If you are a teacher or student and would like to work on a school project, but need some advice about which technology to use and how to use it, please feel free to s… Continue
