Our Song Circle welcomes you into out small community.

This is a place for school classes from around the world to share with others their creativity and connection. Our Song Circle - Wimbo Mviringo was originally started by the Community Breakthrough Support Mission in Kimilili, Kenya. We feel very privileged to participate with you in this exchange of peace and fellowship.

Please spend some time looking through the school projects presented here. Our children would be delighted if you would consider joining Our Song Circle and making projects of your own. School classes of every age group are welcome.

Even though English is the main language used on this site, please feel free to create a project either your native language or in a second language. It would be good, if possible, to write a summary in English of the projects for others to read.

If you need any help about how to become a member, or you need suggestions about what projects your class can do, please do not hesitate to ask either Lia or Rev. Wasike. We are hopeful, with time and care, Our Song Circle will grow into a wonderful and joyful place for us all.

Water, a precious Gift of Life (Part I)

We often take the availability of water for granted. Herlina and Gabi worked on a project that focused on teaching the children about where water comes from and how precious gift water is to life on this earth. Through various science experiments, the children of various classrooms in Germany and Indonesia exchange information amongst themselves about their findings.

The students sought out various sources of water: kitchen water tap, a grocery store, a pond, a school water fountain, etc.

This… Continue

Water, a precious Gift of Life (Part II)

The science experiments were constructed so the students were able to use all their senses and observations skills to find out:

• Who needs water? (Animals, plants, humans, etc.)
• What is water made of?
• What can water do? (Cools down through condensation, evaporates with light and heat, etc.)
• How does water smell?
• How does water feel? (Surface tension, temperature, etc.)
• What sounds does water make?
• How much water do we use?
• Why we soon lack of clean water in Jakarta?
• Why is Jaka… Continue

Update on our school garden project

Rev. Wasike sent me this update to post here about our new school garden.

Our garden project started as many project here start, by taking small steps with big hearts and strong wills. Since the plot of land that our temporary school stands on is too small, the planting was done in various places in the area; depending on the free portion of land donated for this season by the Kimilili community.

We managed to plant cassava plant, maize, cow peace, and kale (sukuma wiki). Continue

Brief History of Our School

Hello. My name is Esther and I am the head mistress of the Kitale early childhood farm & prison school in Kitale, Kenya. Presently, we have about 100 children attending our grade school. Our young children come from the prison compound (from parents working in the prison or from mothers residing there) or from the near lying farms.

Our school was founded about three years ago. Initially, we had about 30 children. The second year there were a few more and this last school year we had nearly… Continue

CBSM School Closing Celebrations 2008

Well, we managed to complete our first school year in Kimilili. What a fine celebration we had.

I would like to extend a special thanks to all our teachers, school volunteers, and children guardians. Without your tremendous help, we would never be able to care for our children as we do. My gratitude is great.

P.S. for those of you in other countries, Kenya has "summer" vacations now! And here you are in snow... it is a truly wonderful world. Continue
